Ole Jakob Elle, PhD, Head of Technology Research at The Intervention Centre, Oslo University Hospital and also holds an Associate professorship at Department of Informatics, University of Oslo.

The Section for Technology Research at The Intervention Centre aims to develop cutting-edge technological solutions supporting the whole chain from patient diagnostic to treatment.

Ole Jakob Elle has his master from Department of Production and Quality Engineering at NTNU and defended his PhD  in Medical Robotics in 2004. He has been working as a product developer at Luxo AS working with Computer Aided Design of mechanical parts and assemblies and prototyping these using 3D printing technologies.

From 1998 he has been working at The Intervention Centre, where his major scientific contributions in the medical domain include developments in:
Image guided surgery
Image navigation
Sensor control and haptic feedback in Robotic surgery
Biosensor development and monitoring

Elle has established a broad international network within image guided surgery, both academic and industrial through participation from The Intervention Centre, OUH as a partner in four EU-funded projects:
ARISER-Augmented Reality in Surgery
SCath-Smart Catheterization
IIIOS-Integrated Intraoperative Imaging Operating System
I-SUR – Intelligent Surgical Robotics

A strong national collaboration has been established with NTNU and Medical Technology at Sintef in image guided surgery in addition to working closely with different research groups at Department of Informatics, UiO. Ole Jakob Elle has been a committee member for several national seminars in medical technology as well as for Society for Minimally Invasive Technology (SMIT 2002).

The EU-ITN project “HiPerNav – High Performance soft-tissue Navigation” started in autumn 2016 and is coordinated by The Intervention Centre.
