CCI - Big in Japan

The Japanese Society of Echocardiography (JSE) is an important scientific organization with international collaborative efforts in research and education. CCI Center Director Thor Edvardsen and PhD-fellow Øyvind H. Lie constituted two thirds of the delegation of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) to the yearly JSE congress, this time held in Morioka, Japan. The congress saw 1500 attendees among cherry blossoms and dormant volcanoes.

Prof. Edvardsen was invited to deliver a special lecture on the advances in functional assessment of left ventricular function. He has been instrumental in the conceptualization, development and standardization of echocardiographic speckle tracking strain indices, and drew a large crowd at the congress. Øyvind H. Lie was invited to participate in the International Award Session after winning the Prof. Roelandt’s Young Investigator Award during EuroEcho Imaging 2017 in Lisbon, Portugal. In addition to presenting the work on the harmful impact of high intensity versus long duration exercise in AC, he was also on the panel of experts during the Young Fellow session. The congress was a scientific and collaborative success, and an exciting cultural experience.
