One of the largest gatherings in the field of cardiovascular imaging, EuroEcho-Imaging Conference, was held in Leipzig, Germany this year. More than 3 200 healthcare professionals from over 90 countries met for a 4-day long scientific exchange. Several Center members participated, presenting the data from recent studies. During the conference it was announced that Center Director Thor Edvardsen has become the new President Elect of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). This is an enormous honor and is the first time that someone from the Nordic countries has been elected to this prestigious position. Professor Edvardsen won the Inge Edler prize earlier on this year. The award is given for outstanding contribution in the field of echocardiography. Professor Otto Smiseth was rewarded with EACVI Honorary Membership in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of Cardiovascular Imaging during the conference. |
Center director for cardiology research, Kristina Hermann Haugaa, MD, PhD talked about arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia under the session for Assessment of morphology and function, which took place 8th of December. Her talk covered the criteria for diagnosing right ventricular dysplasia, as well as the various aspects of the genetics and pathophysiology of arrhythmia. This session discussed four important topics in relation to right ventricular function.
Haugaa also co-chaired the "Young Investigator Award session - Basic Science" Prize as well as the session titeld "The walking dead; role of imaging after Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD)".

The study concluded that pregnancy is well tolerated in women with operated or native CoA. However, the significantly higher number of premature births and cesarean sections, and the higher incidence of preeclampsia in CoA patients compared to healthy controls, indicate that a close follow up of CoA patients during pregnancy is important. |
